The Carl Walther company began development of a new military pistol in mid-1930s to replace the WW1 Luger design. In 1938, the Werhmacht adopted Walther MP model experimental pistol, called the "Pistole 38." The P-38 features a recoil-operated, locked breech design with vertically tilting blocking bar that connects the moving barrel and the slide. It was the first full-power military handgun to feature a double-action trigger. Other features includes a short, top-open slide, a manual safety mounted on the left side of the slide, and loaded chamber indicator at the rear side of the slide. The frame and slide are steel, with blued or polished finish. The grip plates are plastic. The magazine loads from the bottom of the hand grip.

This weapon, known as the worlds first assault rifle (SturmGewehr = Assault Rifle in German) was developed during WWII. Initial development took place under the designation of MKb.42 - MachinenKarabine, 1942.  Both guns were intended as a replacement for submachine guns, bolt action rifles and, partly, light machineguns for front troops. Both guns were designed to fire intermediate (between rifle and pistol) cartridge, and have effective maximum range of 700 meters. By the end of the war, some 425,977 StG44 variants of all types were produced. The assault rifle proved an invaluable weapon, especially on the Eastern front, where it was first deployed. A properly trained soldier with an StG44 had a greatly improved tactical repertoire, in that he could effectively engage targets at long range across open terrain, or in close range urban fighting, as well as provide cover fire in all situations in a machine gun role.

Of all infantry weapons conceived during the 20th century, few were as important as the submachine gun, a weapon designed specifically for close-quarter combat. The MP40 was the first submachine gun that was mass-produced largely from stampings. The low rate of fire made this gun very controllable. It was often referred to as a Schmeisser  by troops of the time. The Schmeisser company produced a weapon similar in design, but the MP-40 was manufactured by a different company, it was also simpler to manufacture  and was less prone to problems in the field. The weapon has a folding metal stock that is usually folded underneath the receiver of the gun. The MP-40 ( MP38 has a wooden buttstocks.)was originally conceived in World War I and eventually was used by German forces on all fronts of WWII.

stielhangrenata.jpg

The Stielhangrenate, Arguably the most recognized German infantry weapon of  the 20th Century. and one most simple. A detonator is attached to the fuze and the handle is screwed into the base of the head. There is a fuze-well in the head to accommodate the protruding detonator. The end cap is unscrewed and the ball drops out . The cord is pulled with the left hand as the right swings back to throw. The fuze is made up of a delay element in a metal tube. A wire with an abrasive surface is set in a friction sensitive ignition compound (like matches) and enclosed in the bottom end. Yank the wire out, via a cord, and it ignites the compound starting the 5-second delay.  It was nicknamed the "potato masher" by the Ally troops.

The Germans used an assortment of mines. One is referred to as a "pot mine". An acid would ignite the primer when the vile it was in was crushed and the primer would explode the main charge. This was an anti-personnel mine. Another mine was the "S-Mine" or "schrapnell-mine". It was buried with a couple of trigger wires sticking out of the ground, and when tripped, it would launch into the air and explode showering the area with high velocity steel balls. The S-Mine was used as an anti-personnel mine also. The standard anti-tank mine in use was called the "Tellermine" and contained one pound of TNT. It was a large flattened circular plate shaped mine with a carrying handle on one side. It had a pull ignitor for special use, or more commonly, the centrally mounted detonator charge was screwed into the base charge. It took 350 pounds to set off this mine and it could rip the tracks off any tank.

The German "Holzmine" or "wooden mine" was an attempt to defeat the Allied metal detecting mine detectors. It was wooden box with ten pounds of TNT inside with a detonator that took 250 pounds of pressure to ignite. This mine was also an anti-tank mine.

8.5 lbs ( 4 Kg )

The Kar 98k was a shortened version of the original 1898 weapon from the first World War, the 'k' standing for kurz or short.  It employed the Mauser bolt action which influenced many other Continental designs.  Despite the plethora of semi and fully automatic rifles the Germans experimented with and actually deployed, the Kar 98 still provided the bulk of the rifle strength of the Army.  It served as a sniper rifle with a variety of telescopic sights, and proved highly destructive in the role. The rifleman was issued sixty rounds, two five round clips carried in each of the six pouches on his belt.

the K98 is only in MOHAA, in MOHAAB & MOHAAS the sniper rifle is the G43

The G43 Semi-Automatic rifle used full-power 8mm Mauser rounds and was issued primarily to snipers. The telescopic sight was standard. In common with the MP40, it has a cocking handle on the left, a peculiarly German expedient. It is a gas operated, semi-automatic weapon. The short stroke gas piston is located above the barrel. The rifle is fed from detachable box magazines, which held 10 rounds. Each G43 rifle had the dovetail, which can accept the telescope sight mount, in addition to the standard adjustable open sights. In 1944 the Gew.43 was re-designated as Kar.43 with no visible changes made and was manufactured until the end of the war.

The Maschinengewehr-34 was known as a main infantry support weapon through the first half of  WWII, often mounted on vehicles. It is nototious for being the first ever true Universal machine gun, that could be used as a light machine gun from bipod, as a sustained fire, medium machine gun on tripod, as a tank or Anti-Aircraft gun. In general, MG-34 was an outstanding weapon, with a very fine finish and made to tight tolerances, but this became its biggest drawback - being too expensive and too slow to manufacture it was less than suitable for mass wartime production. It also was  sensitive to dirt and fouling, a standard atrribute of the western front battles.

The Human Brain is probably the most complex structure in the known universe. It was, and still is the greatest and most adaptable weapon ever. On the battlefield a soldier's first weapon is his brain: THE Command Center of all his senses simultaneous input wich will plan AND decide in nano-seconds the course of his next reactions.
